The Dorset People’s Assembly was formed in July 2013, when we had our first meeting under the Martyrs’ Tree during the Tolpuddle Festival.
We joined the National People’s Assembly and other groups at the NHS march in Manchester on 29th Sept 2013, held a Dorset People’s Assembly in Dorchester on March 29th and have a whole load of actions in the pipeline.
We come from all over Dorset, anyone is free to join us at our regular meetings or actions & events.
The National Movement
The Peoples Assembly Against Austerity was launched on 5th February 2013, with a letter to the Guardian newspaper. It called for
a People’s Assembly Against Austerity to bring together campaigns against cuts and privatisation with trade unionists in a movement for social justice.
On 15th March 2014, a People’s Assembly national conference unanimously voted to endorse and adopt the following aims:
- A fairer economy for a fairer Britain
- More and better jobs
- High standard homes for all
- Protect and improve public services
- For fairness and justice
- For a secure and sustainable future
We believe that there are viable alternatives to the Austerity of our current goverment, and demand for these to be included in the public debate.
We have a plain and simple goal: to make government abandon its austerity programme. If it will not it must be replaced with one that will.
